// Why I Travel
Travel is the fastest way to recalibrate perspective. A week in a mountain village strips away the abstraction of academic work and replaces it with something concrete: the weight of a pack, the rhythm of altitude, the quiet of a ridgeline at sunrise. I travel solo when I can — it demands more presence, forces more conversations, and leaves more room for the unexpected detour that turns out to be the point of the trip.
I enjoy long hikes and high-altitude treks in the Himalayas, slow rail journeys through Europe, and the particular freedom of planning as little as possible. Nepal, where I grew up, remains the benchmark — every new landscape is measured against Himalayan scale.

Nepal
South Asia · Home Country · Multiple Visits
Home. The Himalayas set the scale for everything — ridgelines at 5,000 m make every other mountain feel approachable. Trekking in the Annapurna and Langtang regions, the old streets of Kathmandu's Thamel, and the quieter valleys of Dhulikhel and Nagarkot are all part of the fabric. Nepal is not a destination visited once; it is the baseline the rest of the world is measured against.

United States
North America · Current Base · Michigan & Multiple States
Home since January 2024 for the PhD. East Lansing and Michigan form the daily backdrop, with road trips to Chicago, Detroit, and beyond. The Midwest's quiet lakes and flat horizons are a different kind of beautiful — nothing like the Himalayas, but honest in their own way.

Europe
Austria · Belgium · Czech Republic · France · Germany · Hungary · Luxembourg · Netherlands · Slovakia · Switzerland
A single European tour covered ten countries across Central and Western Europe. The Rhine valley, the old quarters of Budapest, the canals of Amsterdam, Paris at dusk, the Christmas markets of Prague and Bratislava, the precision of Swiss cities — Europe rewards the slow traveller who takes the train.

India
South Asia · Border Country · Multiple Crossings
India is Nepal's closest neighbour — overland crossings, transit through Delhi and Kolkata, and the sheer scale of the subcontinent just over the border. Each crossing is a reminder of how much variety exists within a short distance.
